Best Overall – De’Longhi Dragon 4 Oil Filled Radiator

Check Price on Amazon Buy Direct

A significant upgrade from the already great Dragon 3, De’Longhi’s Dragon 4 Oil Filled Radiator is our top pick.

It has a range of heat settings available. The lowest of which puts out 1100 watts, while the medium option is 1400W. The highest setting will not often be needed as it can put out a maximum of 2500W.

Although at full power this radiator will get up to temperature very quickly and create a huge amount of heat, it’s expensive to run when compared with the lower settings.

Designed to work best in a room measuring 75m², the Dragon 4 uses an enhanced chimney effect to quickly heat the entire area.

The thermostat and power output are simple to set with the manual dials, while the 24-hour mechanical timer allows you to easily program the radiator’s on and off times.

The Dragon 4’s power cable is only 1.37 metres which can make it a little challenging to position if you don’t have a conveniently placed plug socket but the 17.5kg radiator is easy to move thanks to the soft roll wheels and double carry handles.

With its overheat shut off, it’s safe to leave this radiator on to keep you warm for hours on end. The anti-frost function can be used if you are planning on being out of the room for extended periods.

De’Longhi have so much faith in their product that they offer a 10-year warranty as standard with the Dragon 4 Oil Filled Radiator!

Features

  • 2500 watts maximum output
  • 24-hour timer
  • Inbuilt thermostat
  • 10-year warranty

Pros

  • Easy to move
  • Three different power settings
  • Heats a room quickly using its enhanced chimney effect

This is a powerful, well-made oil-filled radiator with 3 power modes; low-power mode at 1000W, medium-power mode at 1300W and high-power mode at 2300 W. 2300W is exceptionally powerful and means this radiator cannot be connected to an extension lead as it draws too much power.

The ANSIO Oil Filled Radiator Heater has several features to ensure its safety including an overheat protection circuit that shuts the heater down if it begins to overheat.

It will also automatically turn off once it’s been knocked over. There’s also a child lock feature to prevent children from turning on or altering any settings once engaged.

The timer allows the radiator to be switched on for a duration of up to 24hrs, after which it will automatically shut down. An eco-mode will moderate the heat to save power.

The temperature can be set from 5C all the way up to 35C, which is suitable for all heating applications. Any previously used settings will be memorised for the next time the device is switched on.

With its remote control and professional control panel, this is a highly recommended oil-filled radiator that is capable of delivering impressive levels of heat without compromising safety.

Considerations When Buying an Oil-Filled Radiator

Portability

How you want to use your oil filled radiator will determine how portable you need it to be. If you plan on leaving it in one room then portability might not be something you’re worried about. However, if you want to move the radiator around your house, you’ll need to ensure it has wheels and decent grab handles.

The power cable length is also an important factor in how manoeuvrable your radiator is going to be. For example, if yours only has a 50cm cable attached, there will be very few places you can position it where it will still be close to a plug.

Colour/Style/Looks

Realistically, unless a radiator fits in well with your current decor, you may find yourself hiding it away and not using it. With that in mind, it’s worth choosing a radiator that appeals to you aesthetically.

Some people will prefer the look of a slim radiator but it’s worth noting that different sized options come with pros and cons. Smaller oil filled radiators tend to heat up quicker than their larger siblings but also emit and retain far less heat.

Larger radiators can still produce a decent amount of warmth even after being switched off for 10-15 minutes.

Power Output

The power output of oil-filled radiators is measured in Watts. Anything less than 600W isn’t worth considering as they don’t put out much heat at all. Conversely, anything over 2000W can be expensive to use, especially if it’s turned up to the max.

Small rooms or offices can usually be heated by a 600-800W heater whereas an average-sized living room would be better served by a 1500W machine. Large or particularly cold rooms will require a 2000W radiator but these can be pricey to run long term.

The most efficient way to use an oil-filled radiator is at a low setting. A 1500W heater used on its lowest setting is likely to be much more efficient than a 600W machine used on its highest.

Timers

It’s possible to buy oil-filled radiators with programmable inbuilt timers. These allow you to set the radiator up once and as long as it remains plugged in, it’ll switch itself on and off at the desired times. These can come in the form of a digital screen or analogue dials but some radiators won’t have one at all. Keep this in mind when making your choice.

Safety Features

An important and often overlooked aspect of oil-filled radiators is their safety features. Ensure your radiator of choice comes with a well-rated thermostat and a good auto shut off feature to prevent overheating.

A tilt switch, while not necessary, can be a great addition should you have kids or pets at home. This will automatically shut the radiator off should it be knocked over, preventing heat damage to the surrounding area as well as dramatically reducing the fire risk.

Summary

While the De’Longhi Dragon 4 is certainly the best oil filled radiator we found, the PureMate 2500W is a close runner up.

For the budget-conscious, the Russell Hobbs radiator is well priced and very reasonably priced to run. If you need to heat a large space, you won’t go far wrong with the Oypla radiator.
